CNOA Bursaries

The President, Chairman and Committee of CNOA are pleased to announce the establishment of a fund to provide CNOA Memorial Bursaries,  in memory of Officers and Members of The Chatham Naval Officers Association who have crossed the bar.

The Bursaries have been co-founded and sponsored by Kent County Councillors Mr Alan Ridgers (CNOA Committee member) and Mr Jordan Meade, who have successfully recommended this scheme for a Kent County Council Community Grant  and Dr Martin Watts (Hon Sec).

Objective
To sponsor Sea Cadets from the Kent Districts to attend a course that will benefit the individual in their knowledge, teamwork, leadership or career progression.

Applications
Cadets should apply on a single page A4 document, and include name, age, unit, unit contact details, course applied for, cost and amount applied for (up to £100). The application should also include reason(s) as to why CNOA should sponsor them, where possible written by the cadet, and always endorsed and signed by the unit CO.

Timing
There are, initially, two bursaries to be applied for between 1st December 2024 and 1 March 2025 by email to cnoauk@gmail.com.

The Committee will consider increasing the frequency and/or number of bursaries after reviewing the initial awards.

Feedback
We ask that the cadets in receipt of a CNOA Bursary either write a document stating how they benefited from the course or, by arrangement, attend a CNOA meeting, accompanied by a responsible adult, to deliver a10 minute brief describing the course and its benefits.

Governance
The Committee will propose an addition to our Constitution, incorporating the above Bursary, including arrangements for administering, auditing and monitoring to protect the funds allocated to the scheme. This proposal will be discussed at the 2025 AGM for ratification by the Committee thereafter. The objective of the CNOA is to support the Royal Navy and associated elements of the UK maritime environment.

This includes:

Providing support where practicable to Naval and associated organisations

Promoting comradeship amongst members

Offering support to any member in distress

Supporting and raising funds for selected maritime and other appropriate charities

The Association currently has over 80 members avy.
